First calls of the year come in three back to back.
1/7/2009
Call #1(12:26): Engine 3-2-2 was dispatched for the assist Liberty Fire Co.(3-9) with a suspected structure fire at the PNC Bank in the 400 Block of West main street in New Holland boro, The engine and the squad fielded with (12) but were turned back after it was discovered to be an electrical malfunction.
Call #2(13:17): Tanker & Engine were dispatched to Salisbury Twp to assist White Horse(4-9) with a suspected barn fire. Engine3-2-2 checked up with (6), Tanker with (4) and squad with (3). Upon his arrival Deputy Chief 4-9 reported a large barn off, directed Engine 3-2-2 to setup a tanker fill site at the intersection of Meadeville Rd & Red Hill Rd. at the pond. Engine proceeded to fill (11) loads. Squad manpower reported to staging. The tanker was on the tanker shuttle till 16:25 when they were released. Engine stayed till 19:00 Hrs. Call #3(16:04): Engine 3-12-1 was transferred to the 3-2 house for the standby during which a civilian reported to the station and reported a lot of smoke coming from a chimney in the vicinity of the 4400 block of Division Highway. The engine crew requested the box be struck and went to investigate. On the box was E3-12-1 & T3-6. T^he crew found a wood stove in the residence, no problems, returned all units and terminated without incident.
Tanker goes to Shoeneck

(1:55): On this frigid morning, Tanker 3-2 was dispatched to assist Shoeneck Fire Co.(1-9) with a working house fire at 690 Sandy Hill Rd in West Cocalico Twp. Tanker fielded with four personnel. Arrived and moved their staffing up to staging while tankers prepared to pump off their water. After approx 45 Minutes of low activity, Tanker 3-2 was released from this call and returned to the 3-2 house to get warmed up and ready for more.
Tanker goes to Gordonville

(4:41): Again on a frigid morning, Tanker 3-2 was dispatched to assist Gordonville Fire Co.(4-3) with a working barn fire at 3306 Harvest Drive in Leacock Twp. Tanker fielded with four personnel. Arrived and moved their staffing up to staging while tankers dumped off their water. After transporting (4) loads of water, Tanker 3-2 was released from this call and returned to station. Tanker goes to White Horse

(9:07): On this morning, Tanker 3-2 was dispatched to assist White Horse Fire Co.(4-9) with a working dwelling fire at 129 Hershey Church Rd in Salisbury Twp. Tanker fielded with five personnel, arrived and staged at the scene for approx 10 minutes.
As it happens when the boys got to the 4-4 house they were invited to sit in and have a hearty breakfast. Their members were in the midst of this fund raiser when the call came in, so a we extend a big "Thank You" to the 4-4 boys and girls for the hospitality. There being no further incidents while on standby, Tanker 3-2 was released from this function and returned to station.




Chimney Fire in the first due
1/27/2009
(17:10): Station 3-2 was alerted for the dwelling fire at 1304 Edgewood Drive in the Sheep Hill development. Deputy 3-2 arrived reporting smoke from the chimney, all other conditions appear normal. Engine 3-2-2, Tanker 3-2 & Squad 3-2 went enroute with 15 volunteers. Chief 3-2 arrived, established the IC. Deputy 3-2 requested the engine crew bring PW, chimneybox and TIC in to the fireplace. The fireplace insert was loaded and had gotten the residue from a few years ignited between the insert & the fireplace bricks. The crew proceeded to clean out all live fire from the fire box, removed the insert and cleaned out all potential and remaining fire. Tanker crew was directed to side "C" to gain access to the roof to monitor progress of the interior crew's efforts. Squad initiated ventilation with PPVs and smoke ejectors. The box was placed back in service upon completion of ventilation and final evaluation of the residence.

(7:39): On this morning, Tanker 3-2 was dispatched to assist West Earl Fire Co(3-13) with a working building fire at 114 Pool Rd in West Earl Twp. Tanker fielded with five personnel, arrived and interfaced with the water supply operations.

Company gets dispatched to assist 3-9

(18:32): Company 3-2 was dispatched to assist New Holland(3-9) on the apartment building at 121 S Custer Ave in New Holland Boro, Deputy Chief(Jeff Martin) signed on location with a 2-1/2 story apartment building, all occupants out and apartment full of smoke, fire possibly out. Chief 3-9 arrived on scene, took command then soon after held the response to units on the street. Engine 3-2-2 was released and returned with no action on this one.


Tanker goes to Brecknock Twp
3/9/2009
(15:00): Tanker 3-2 was dispatched to assist Fivepointville(3-14) on the barn on Woodlyn Rd in Brecknock Twp. As first arriving units were in the process of setting up master streams on the working tobacco shed, command requested additional tankers. Tankers shuttled water from the 3-14 house to the scene as a supplement to the hose relay from a neighboring pond. As the suppression efforts evolved, the need for tankers dissolved so Tanker 3-2 was then moved into the 3-14 house for standby. Tanker goes to West Earl Twp

(19:52): Tanker 3-2 was dispatched to assist Farmersville(3-5) on the dwelling on Covered Bridge Rd in West Earl Twp. First arriving units were working an incident where a chimney fire had apparently gotten out into the structure of an older multiple addition dwelling. As the event unfolded, due to an unknow fire load and potential for hidden fires, command requested additional tankers. Tanker 3-2 checked up with (5) and arrived in the tanker staging area. Crew moved into the tactical evolutions, cutting ceilings where the fire was running between floors. Crews were sent to rehab after their time was up and got rehydrated and evaluated by EMS. After overhaul crews determined the need for water had dissolved, Tanker 3-2 and crew returned and were cleaned up and prepared for the next run.

Motorcycle & cattle truck tangle
3/20/2009
(15:02): The 3-2 volunteers were alerted for the MVA involving a motorcycle on Rancks Church Rd. Upon dispatch, deputy 3-2(Nolt) responded, hearing the additional of motorcycle vs cattle truck. Upon arrival Deputy found the additional to be true, all involved parties walking with no apparent injuries. Due to a pain complaint from the motorcycle rider, deputy recalled all ems with the exception of (1) bls for a possible signoff. Engine 3-2-2 crews worked the scene cleanup after PD had cleared their investigation. PD then released fire dept.





Company runs a mutual aid building box
3/31/2009
(18:36): The 3-2 volunteers were alerted for the building fire on Jaylyn Drive in the 3-9(New Holland) local. As units went enroute, deputy 3-9(Martin) signed on location with a smoke condition in the building. The source of the smoke being unknown but in the area of the restrooms sent the truck crew interior with a handline & PWs. Engine 3-2-2 went enroute with (7), Tanker fielded with (4). Upon E3-2-2s arrival they were assigned to prepare a reverse lay from the truck to the nearest hydrant. Since engine had a surplus of personnel for their assignment, deputy 3-2 took (3) personnel and moved into the interior operations. Interior crews having found the source of the fire and extinguished what they believed was the bulk of the fire called for horizontal ventilation. Deputy 3-2 and crew assisted 4-2 crews and opened doors around the perimeter. Seeing as this was a very fortunate outcome and units were released, Engine and Tanker picked up their lines and returned.

Company assists one of their own
4/3/2009
(19:49): The 3-2 volunteers were alerted for the apartment building at 195 Musser Rd. As units went enroute, EMS 3-9 signed on location with nothing evident from the exterior. Chief 3-2 arrived on scene with the command directing E3-2-2s crew to the basement of unit A-2 which was full of smoke. Upon other crews clearing the exposure apartmens of any non normal coditions, the investigation was led to the washer in the smoke filled basement. The smoke origin no longer present and the washer stopped mid cycle presented as the possible source for the now dissipated smoke condition. Command released all units and companies went back in service. Assisting units were:ENGINE 3-9-1,ENGINE 3-9-2, HOSE 3-9, RESCUE 3-9, TANKER 3-6, TRUCK 3-9



Company handles a woods fire
4/10/2009
(14:16): As the officers were working on getting set up for the company banquet the alarm came in for the woods fire at 1494 Briertown Rd. Engine, Brush & Tanker fielded with crews, in that order. Deputy(Nolt) arrived on scene with an approx size of 25 ft by 25 ft area involved, requested engine pull a brush line upon arrival. As Chief(Mellinger) arrived and initiated the command, crews did the suppression evolutions. PD investigated reports of kids playing in the area just prior to the fire. Using a brush line off of the engine, bladder packs off of the brush, crews made quick work of the spreading fire. After all spot fires were extinguished, units repacked, returned to quarters. PDs investigation continues and incident was terminated








Two services dispatched for a first due in Liberty land
4/18/2009
(23:09): Members were alerted for the Tanker & Engine Company to assist New Holland(3-9) on the dwelling at 603 Overly's Grove Rd. Tanker 3-2 rolled out followed close behind by Engine 3-2-2 arriving on scene with the assignment of water supply. Tanker 3-2 proceeded to pump the line which was laid in by E3-9-1. The Tanker crew migrated in to manpower staging as Engine 3-2-2's crew proceeded with setting up to do porta tank operations. As the suppression crews from Truck 3-9 reported a rapid knock on the attached garage fire the incident was de-escalated to overhaul. Engine 3-2-2 went to the 3-9 east station to cover till remainder of the units were freed up at approx 0045 Hrs.




Fatal in the first due
4/26/2009
(01:14): The call was sounded for the vehicle accident reported with entrapment in the 800 Block of Gault Rd in East Earl Twp. Chief 3-2 arrived confirming 5 patients, with ejections and with multiples still entrapped. E3-2-2 fielded w/5 S3-2 followed close behind. Also dispatched on this call were R3-9(New Holland), 4 BLS & 2 ALS. Due to county getting conflicting reports that this call might be in Salisbury Twp, 4-9 units were also alerted. R3-9 and E3-9-1 arrived and went to work. EMS transported patients as rigs arrived to recieve patients. Skyflightcare aeromedical was added to transport one critical patient. Extrication was completed approx 30 minutes after dispatch. Units stayed on scene till approx 03:46 and investigations on causes are in process. More here, courtesy of Sta 4-9.

Calls land back to back for the start of the month
5/1/2009
(04:30): The company was alerted for the AFA at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord, and the volunteers... reluctantly, during their search for the cause... walked past the breakfast foods being prepared. Maintenance released the company after it was determined to be an alarm problem.
(05:23): As the members were mostly departed from the firehouse, the box was struck in the 3-9(New Holland) first due for the commercial building fire on Peters Rd. Tanker fielded within seconds after dispatch w/3 and Engine fielded w/4. Capt 4-4(Intercourse) arrived on location reporting a utility pole on fire, sparks going over top of buildings. Chief 3-9 arrived, with the command, directed units into position and requested the utility company for electrical power control. Tanker 3-2 arrived with the assignment of holding on the street. Engine 3-2-2, upon the IC request redirected to the 3-9 east station for the standby. All 3-2 units cleared at approx 0700 Hrs with no further incident.
Busy afternoon/evening in May
5/14/2009
(14:31): The company and 3-9(New Holland) were tapped out on the vehicle accident with confinement at Marble Ave & Main St. Engine fielded w/5, arrived and setup a suppression line, stabilized and depowered the occupied vehicle. As deputy(Nolt) arrived and took the command, Deputy 3-9 advised command that rescue will not be needed, hence the redirecting of rescue to the other call in the 3-2 first due for wires down. EMS transported all patients and Engine replaced units at the wires call after debris was cleared up.
(14:32): As the company was turning out for the above call a second call came in for wires down in the area of 1358 Springville Rd. This alerted the cover unit Hose 3-9 but was replaced by 3-9 units redirected from the accident call. At this location volunteers found a tree branch had decided to depart from its main tree and take some power lines along with it. 3-9 units were released when Engine 3-2-2 became available to close this call when utility company arrived.
(21:18): The volunteers were requested by PD for the search detail in the area of the 800 block of Gault Rd. Units arrived and were directed down the trails searching for a vehicle that had become disabled and lost while offroading. Vehicle & occupants were located and incident was left with PD, Units returned to get ready for the next run.

(14:48): The Engine and the Squad turned out for the vehicle accident at 282 Weaverland Valley Rd. Deputy(Nolt) arrived to find a minor two vehicle crash with fluids leaking and all occupants with no complaints. After the vehicle with the coolant system compromise was depowered, crews did fluid mop up. Units operated for approx 20 minutes, returned and prepared for more.

7/25/2009
(22:42): The Engine and the Tanker were alerted for the vehicle fire at the Terrie Lane MHP. Both units rapidly fielded with crews of volunteers and held the fire to the original vehicle. There was some heat damage in the exposure home & second vehicle. This was the first fire attack for the new tanker and the CAFS system. Crews overhauled to confirm no remaining fire and incident was completed with no more action on this day.

9/25/2009
(15:00): While the Engine is out doing a photo shoot and returning to station came upon a vehicle accident involving 3 cars without injury, as crews were just wrapping up the fluid spillage and picking up the leftovers the call was transmitted for Tanker32 to transfer to Chester Co. Sta. 69 (Twin Valley) The Tanker went with a full crew of 6 and arrived at station 69, the chauffer just popped the parking brake when Chester advised they have a run for us to go to the Shopping plaza behind Wal-Mart for the possible explosive device, were told we will be first in as PD has an extended ETA, the crew staged at a distance and got a perimeter established, PD arrived and it was determined the bomb squad is needed, while waiting for those missions to be completed we had 2 news choppers overhead for aerial support and a hot air balloon pass within 1000 feet of the site. All things said and done, the device was definitely live as the bomb crew detonated the device and the job was terminated and Tanker was released to go back to our quarters.



Hand tool impalement
10/20/2009
(13:00): Engine 3-2-2 along with Rescue 3-9(New Holland) was dispatched to the intersection of Weaverland Valley Rd and Dawkins drive to assist EMS with removal of a toolbelt and stabilize a hand drywall saw that was propelled into the patients leg from falling 2X lumber. Crews worked for approx 20 minutes to remove the toolbelt because of the tool having gone through the pouch and the denim pants. Patient was extremely sensitive to any movement until some pain management measures took effect. Having completed this incident all fire crews were returned and EMS transported to a medical facility.




Vehicle accident involving three
11/13/2009
(13:00): Engine 3-2-2 along with EMS was dispatched to the 1000 block of East Earl Rd for the vehicle accident with injuries. Engine responded with 5 personnel just prior to Deputy(Nolt) arriving with the report of three vehicles involved. Engine arrived on scene, depowered (2) vehicles and took care of fluids on the roadway. Squad went with (2) personnel, one of them being a fire police. Crews assisted with cleanup and traffic control for the duration of the incident. Crews then returned and EMS transported to a medical facility.

11/27/2009
(09:00): Engine 3-2-2 along with EMS was dispatched to Main St & New St for the vehicle accident with injuries. Chief(Mellinger) And Deputy(Nolt) arrived to find a vehicle on its roof after shearing a pole. Both occupants had self extricated and presented with minor injuries. Engine 3-2-2 fielded with 6 personnel, Squad 3-2 fielded with 2. Fire personnel controlled all hazards as EMS cared for and transported both patients. Tow company righted the vehicle and all units returned as utility company was notified about the damages.
