Tanker Truck overturns- driver trapped
Sunday 12/21/2003 01:51 hrs. The Rescue box was called out in the early morning hours to the area of 4635 Division Highway for the reports of a tractor trailer that was overturned and the driver trapped. Chief 3-2 arrived confirming all the information. This was in the parking lot of a bulk commodity carrier main terminal where the night shift workers were washing trailers. This truck was making a U-turn with a load of liquid chocolate and overturned. The cab of the tractor was smashed against the side of another trailer which was also pulling in the building to be worked on. The driver was not belted and became wedged in the cab on the now sideways passenger area. The pt. was unconscious and with quick stabilization of the truck and rescuers entering inside the cab thru the drivers door were able to remove the windshield. There was a rapid extrication performed as the pt was in seizures and severe airway issues at had. The pt. was not too heavy a person which made it an option to remove thru the windshield. The pt.was immediately transported by Amb 3-9-1 to The LGH Trauma center class one and seems to be recovering just fine. Chief 3-2 had the "command" while Chief 3-9 had the "rescue operations"
Units cleared at 02:44. On scene; E322, E391, Rescue39, Brush32, Amb 391, Medic 9. PSP Ephrata investigated the accident

Sunday 12/14/2003 19:31 hrs. After a day of slush and snow and the temp. dropping below 32 degrees most of the back roads became icy causing several accidents in the area. This one in particular at 684 Wallace Road had a car snap a pole with wires down, no injuries. Units ready at 20:09
Accident in the Welsh Mtn.
Sat. 12/13/03 22:15 hrs LCWC dispatched an Engine and an Ambulance to the area of Rt. 897 and Gault road for the MVA where a newer model single cab pick-up evidently left the roadway and sideswiped numerous trees along the roadside. The driver was out and walking around even tho the vehicle looked as tho it was a total loss. The entire passenger side was mangled and the dash intruded into the passenger compartment all the way to the seat, had there been a passenger, it would clearly have been a full Rescue operation. The driver was taken to the hospital class 3 for evaluation and the Engine company from Blue Ball was ready for service at 23:00. Units on scene; C32, Dep 32, E322, Brush32, Amb 391, fire police from 32, 49 and PD from

Blue Ball Assist's White Horse on a house
Friday 12/12/2003 13:50 hrs. The box alarm was sounded for the working dwelling fire at 637 Gault Road in Salisbury Twp. in White Horse Fire's (4-9) first due. Deputy 4-9 arrived with "heavy smoke" from side four. Engine 4-9-1 arrived 6 minutes later and Engine 3-2-2 a minute after that, the crews went to work on the interior as the bulk of the fire was on the first floor and started running inside the walls on side four. This being it was an older log house with vinyl siding and plaster interior walls it was difficult to get a knock on this advancing fire. Truck 3-9 was special called for venting purposes and to assist in opening the exterior walls. The fire ran past the second floor into the attic and for some time was not stopping even tho there was an aggressive attack being performed by numerous firefighters. The incident was finally placed under control at 15:05 and the units went returning as they were released by command. On the call were E491, E492, E322, E441, E422, Tankers 49, 32, 44, Truck 39, Air 39, Amb. 49  Engine 391 had the transfer to Blue Ball and ran a brush fire call in 3-2's first due. Thank You 3-9 !

Monday 11/03/03  08:07 hrs Station 3-9 and Tanker 3-2 were alerted to Don Drive on the 3-9 box #1509 south of New Holland Boro for a report of a mobile home on fire. As Chief 3-9 signed on a mile out "heavy smoke showing" county advised they received a call from an individual telling them he just lit a mobile home with some accelerant and is now walking down the street. The Police arrived and took the individual into custody as units from 3-9 and 3-2 arrived simultaneously with a single mobile home "fully involved"
Units went to work and had the fire under control at 08:27 and most units cleared around 09:20 hrs. On scene; E391,E392, Hose39, R39, Air39, Tanker32, A391, Chief 39 had command and Deputy 32 had the Operations, Deputy39 as Safety.
Christmas morning "first due" house fire
Thurs. 12/25/2003 16:09 hrs.Blue Ball Fire was called for the dwelling fire in the early hours of Christmas Day. Chief 3-2 arrived on the scene with a smoke condition in the entire first and second floors of a single family dwelling and the fire reported to be out. The house was searched and everyone was accounted for. The smoke was removed via negative ventilation of the first and second floors. The fire was placed under control at 06:25.
Evidently there was a candle left burning on top of the big screen TV over the night and burned down thru and started the appliance on fire. The occupants were sleeping in the upstairs and being the older male had some asthma problems and this now waking him due to dense smoke throughout. The same male investigated and put out the fire with an extinguisher. The pt. experienced breathing difficulties and was taken to the hospital with ALS.
Units were available at 06:57. Chief 3-2 had command, Deputy 3-2 had ops.
Units on scene; E322, Tanker 32, Brush 32, Squad 32, Amb 391, Medic 4
Had this medical condition not existed, and the fact of no working smoke detectors present, this could have been an incident as disastrous as just a few hours prior to this fire there was a triple fatal house fire in the county (Lititz2-5) where the Christmas tree was the cause and no working detectors present.

2 Alarm Building Fire in New Holland Boro
Sat. 01/10/2004 11:53 hrs. The companies from 3-9 and 3-2 were called to the area of South Railroad Ave. and East Franklin St. in the Boro for heavy smoke coming from the eves and the doors of an industrial building. Deputy 3-9 went on the scene with an updated address of 101 West Franklin with  the well advanced building fire. Chief 3-9 arrived and immediately requested the second alarm. The Engine from 3-2 going with 6 men took the hydrant at the corner of West Franklin and South Custer Ave. and laid in, also establishing a supply for the truck. The crews from 3-2 went to work assisting the already in place 2 1/2" attack lines from 3-9 and helped knock heavy fire in the completely gutted some type of construction trailer inside the structure. Being there was only a very heavy smoke condition and no extension to the main structure, the fire was indeed stopped and placed under control exactly one hour after the initial call. The temperature, even tho it was in the middle of a sunny day was in the teens and the problem of any water hitting the streets was turned into ice and there was close to 3000' of LDH that was charged and needed to be picked up before they became non pliable. Chief 39 had command, Deputy 39 had Ops, Chief 32 had staging and Dep 32 safety.

Barn Fire in Goodville first due
Friday 01/30/2004 23:56 hrs. Full company out of the 3-2 house was summoned to assist Goodville Fire (3-6) on the first alarm to 235 Good's Store Road for a barn fire. Unit had to use extreme caution on the roads as there was extremely icy conditions due to blowing snow and low temperatures present. The chief officer from 3-6 arrived with "smoke showing". The Engines from 3-6 and 3-2 arrived simultaneously and each advanced lines, Eng 3-2-2 using a 200' preconnect 1 3/4" plus the high-rise pack to reach the barn due to the snow being too deep to have units even get close the the building involved. The fire was contained to the area of origin which was an overheated woodstove catching the walls and ceiling on fire. With the help of the just added thermal imaging camera on Eng. 3-2-2 the fire was contained and extinguished with very little damage. Incident under control at 23:18 and the units returned as crews were released. Chief 3-6 had command, Chief 3-2 had operations and the water supply was handled by Chief 3-2-2 Units on scene ; E361, E362, E322, R36, Truck 39, Tankers 36, 34, 32, Squad 36, 32. Blue Ball "Dumps da House"
Monday 2/9/2004 22:25 hrs. A building fire assignment was struck to 150 Earland drive bldg #5 for the report of flames showing from the outside from a passer-by. Chief 3-2 Mellinger arrived and reported fire showing on the side 4/1 corner where the main electric lines were attached to the structure. Evidently there was a short in the wires or the attachment devices and cuased a fire. The Engine from 3-2 arrived and put the fire out with a dry chem extinquisher and with the aid of the recently purchased Thermal Imaging Camera, FF's were able to determined right away if there was extension into the building. The keyholder was still 15 minutes away and with the assistance from Truck 3-9 crew, entry was gained to the interior and verified all "OK" and fire was placed under control. The electric service was depowered by PP&L to prevent further problems. Chief 3-2 had command and Dep 3-2 had the fireground ops. Units on the scene; E 3-2-2, E 3-9-1, E 3-9-2, Hose 3-9, Truck 3-9, Tankers 3-2, 3-6, Rescue 3-9, Air 3-9 and Ambo 3-9-1 units cleared 1 hour later
Tanker  3-2 on the 3rd Alarmer at Dart Container
Tues. 2/10/2004  05:59 hrs As the LCWC kept dispatching units to the commercial building fire at Dart container and command requested a 3rd alarm, the boyz from 3-2 were called upon for the tanker. The instructions were for the setting up of a secondary water supply as this dangerous fire had the tendency of not being stopped easily. Also the crew from 3-2 went into the FF staging and were immediately put to work on the interior or this massive building as there was very large rolls of Styrofoam burning. With the visibility down to zero, the fire was eventually found via thermal imagers and was finally extinguished by portable master streams and the assistance of the activated sprinkler system.

The fire was quickly knocked however while attempting to return to the hard road, the Engine got bogged down in the mud and with the assistance from another "skidder were able to get out and return to quarters for some extensive "demudding" of the equipment. Units finally cleared at 15:03. Units on scene; E322, Brush32, Tanker32 and Deputy 32 had the Command and Captain #1 had the operations.
